Out of love, God becomes man. He says: Here you see what it is to be a human being; but he adds: Take care, for I am also God — blessed is he who takes no offense at me.

The Sickness unto Death (1849)

I have needed God every day to defend myself against the abundance of thoughts.

The Point of View of My Work as an Author (1848)

Seek first God's Kingdom, that is, become like the lilies and the birds, become perfectly silent — then shall the rest be added unto you.

The Lilies of the Field and the Birds of the Air (1849)

There was a thinker who became a hero by his death; he said that he could demonstrate the existence of God with a single straw.

The demonstration of the existence of God is something with which one learnedly and metaphysically occupies oneself only on occasion, but the thought of God forces itself upon a man on every occasion. What is it that such an individuality lacks? Inwardness.
