Education Quotes
“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself” is credited to John Dewey, but the wording is a paraphrase. The Einstein line about education being what remains after you have forgotten what you learned in school is flagged as well.
The sourced entries are less tidy and better. Carlyle, in Sartor Resartus (1833), called it a tragedy that a man should die ignorant who had the capacity for knowledge. Eric Hoffer, in Before the Sabbath (1979), wrote that the best education will not immunize a person against corruption by power.

We have not yet evolved a system of education that is not a system of indoctrination.
Our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our progress in education.
People are not saints just because they haven't got much money or education.
An education is meaningless unless it equips students to have a better life.
Capacity without education is deplorable, and education without capacity is thrown away.
Liberal education is the necessary endeavor to found an aristocracy within democratic mass society.
