Evolution ever climbing after some ideal good
And Reversion ever dragging Evolution in the mud.
Easter Quotes
The sources for this page are the faith, hope and spirituality pages, not a collection of Easter writing. A few entries do mention the day: Longfellow’s The Spanish Student (1843) sets a scene on a bright Easter Sunday with blossoming trees, and W. H. Auden, in A Certain World (1970), says Christmas and Easter can be subjects for poetry but Good Friday cannot, any more than Auschwitz.
Most of what else you find here is general. Expect devotional writers and poets, with sources and dates on every quote page. Anything flagged as disputed or misattributed carries a note that says what the editors turned up.

Lord of myself, accountable to none,
But to my conscience, and my God alone.
Those have a short Lent, who owe money to be paid at Easter.
Consciously or unconsciously, the strategy of true believers is to isolate themselves from skeptics.
Belief consists in accepting the affirmations of the soul; unbelief, in denying them.
To take up half on trust, and half to try,
Name it not faith but bungling bigotry.
The saddest thing that can befall a soul
Is when it loses faith in God and woman.
Whose faith has centre everywhere,
Nor cares to fix itself to form.
