And tho't that the light-house look't lovely as hope,
That star on life's tremulous ocean.
Easter Quotes
The sources for this page are the faith, hope and spirituality pages, not a collection of Easter writing. A few entries do mention the day: Longfellow’s The Spanish Student (1843) sets a scene on a bright Easter Sunday with blossoming trees, and W. H. Auden, in A Certain World (1970), says Christmas and Easter can be subjects for poetry but Good Friday cannot, any more than Auschwitz.
Most of what else you find here is general. Expect devotional writers and poets, with sources and dates on every quote page. Anything flagged as disputed or misattributed carries a note that says what the editors turned up.
The miserable have no other medicine
But only hope:
I've hope to live, and am prepar'd to die.
True hope is swift, and flies with swallow's wings:
Kings it makes gods, and meaner creatures kings.
Hope is a lover's staff; walk hence with that
And manage it against despairing thoughts.
To hope till hope creates
From its own wreck the thing it contemplates.
Within this wall of flesh
There is a soul counts thee her creditor.
I'm an idealist. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.
