On a campaign tour when a reporter saw many katsudon bowls prepared for the press and asked if others were coming. Asanuma then ate two full bowls with miso soup and pickles. This anecdote is well-known for illustrating his enormous appetite and down-to-earth character. Recounted by journalist Shigezō Hayasaka, who frequently accompanied him.
