Love blinds all men, both those who act reasonably and those who act foolishly.
ἅπασιν, ὡς ἔοικε, καὶ τοῖς εὐλόγως
καὶ τοῖς κακῶς ἔχουσιν.

Original text (Ancient Greek)
The truth, sometimes not sought for, comes forth to the light.
Man must be prepared for every event of life, for there is nothing that is durable.
Men are taught virtue and a love of independence by living in the country.
Of all wild beasts on earth or in sea, the greatest is a woman.
Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind,
And therefore is wing'd Cupid painted blind.
To fear love is to fear life, and those who fear life are already three parts dead.
Not for the body, but for the heart; companion and company are needed.
Love seldom haunts the breast where learning lies,
And Venus sets ere Mercury can rise.
