The proverb says
That men turn ever to the rising sun,
Because the setting sun is lost too soon.
Because the gifts of fortune, if unknown
To those who have them, cannot be called gifts.
A penny only to the poor is given,
But to the richest wealth doth year by year increase.
Oft, in discussions, better 'tis to yield,
Than to use arguments which may do harm.
Whoso would all embrace doth nothing clasp.
As mother now, and now as stepmother
Shines the day's light on works of human hands.
For stern necessity and use and time
From day to day do bring forth art and skill.
For richer harvest reap we from small field
Well tilled, than from broad acres all untended.
I do not pay for hopes in current coin.
