The painter is a man who lives intensely, who suffers intensely, who loves intensely.

For the painter, it is an imperious duty to turn toward life, to reestablish everywhere the perceptible current of beauty.

The artist has this vocation of truth, as do all other creators.

The painter is elected to incarnate human emotions.

The artist must remain free, free in his choice, free in his expression.

The artist does not rely on any line of conduct to perfect the work, but liberates himself from all scruples in order to affirm the authority of his world.

Each book was an adventure, a flight.
